Anathema: The Song of Jace

Hey all!

Well, my brainchild is finally here.  For this being the first time I've ever recorded and mixed a track, then filmed a music video for it, I can say that I'm halfway pleased.  I really liked the audio.  (Music is more my forte than acting ever was.)  I didn't really like the video…heh, and, as for why, I did everything, literally, for this music video.  I sang, I played the piano, I mixed it, I wrote it, I directed it, I filmed it, I acted in it, and, throughout all of that, I was never really sure of what I wanted until I sat down to edit it all on the computer.  You can expect a certain level of unprofessionalism simply because I'm appearing in every single shot, and every single shot is a still shot because I was using a tripod.  xD  (Next time, some of you more gifted people will have to come act for me.  xD  Also, the JoNats, I've been told, are music geniuses, so you girls will have to teach me your tricks.  x))

Anyway, my misgivings aside, here's the link to the video on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p0H0J1hxsE&feature=youtu.be

I hope you guys enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed making it.  I realize that, as a final product, it may look like a dramatized version of those home videos that we all made when we were 7-12 years old, but I had way too much fun doing this…yes…all consecutive 6+ hours of filming…all 25+ times that I had to rerecord the vocals because the stupid mixing app kept eating my tracks…all 20+ hours spent on editing…all 3 times that I tried to upload it…all the frustration…aaalllll of it…no regrets whatsoever.  x)

Hey, on the bright side, at least I know what to do better next time, eh?

  2. After you showed me this the other day, it got stuck in my head for most of Wednesday. :) I love the haunting tune and the instruments and the scene that looks at Bible verses. Good job, my friend! You make me want to write a song for Autumn so much. But, alas, she has no tragic backstory. Her song would come out something like this

    1. …I just checked that song out…

Oh my gosh, the happiness. Help. I need to listen to some Evanescence pronto…ughhh… XD

On another note, I'm glad you liked it, and I guess that's good that it got stuck in your head. x) I'll work on Autumn's song when I get inspired, though I think I'll probably write it from her perspective after she and Jace are…dramatic together… o.o Muahahaha...

  3. I can't believe you did all that by yourself! Well, actually, I can because you're Megan and you're cool like that. My fave part musically was the haunting piano music. 'Twas magnificent:) And my fave part actress-ly was the dramatic sitting up in your bed. It was like 'WHOA THIS JUST GOT REAL' haha. You are one dedicated, talented soul. But I must ask, what are the black thingies tied around your neck and arms for? I was never good at symbolism.

Yeah, I had meant for the story line to be something along the lines of me telling my "dearest friend" that I can't stick around because I'm Anathema/dangerous, except that the night that I go to bed after I write the letter, I get a nightmare, wake up, reread what I wrote, and see that someone else had already responded. After that, I try to find comfort in the Bible, but yay for isigesis and reading out of frigging context. o.o Then, I spend the majority of the rest of the night sleepless, and, when I do wake up, the sun is out, which I had hoped would give a sense of a happy ending/hope despite the night's dark details.

Anyway, that said, the song was semi-gothic, so the black ribbons were merely part of my fashion. ;) No more, no less. x)

  4. Wow. That was so cool. I have no words.

I can't even figure out how to transfer a video to my computer without messing it all up.(Actually, I'm not that technologically challenged, but obviously more than you are... But I mean, I can do some stuff, but you can do like, THAT ^^^ stuff, and that's way cool, and I'm over here like, hehe... Hey guys... I can play Temple Run!) <---- See that!? That's why I say no words. Because when I try to use words, it makes it extremely weird. So I'll stop with the comparisons between your epicness, and my... lack thereof.

    Basically, my life:

(I'm fairly convinced I will die because of one of these)

    Your life:

(This is by far one of the greatest compliments ever given.)

So... I'm exhausted, and I'm gonna come back later, and I'm gonna read this and be like "DELETE BUTTON! WHERE ARE YOU?!?" But I'm technologically inept, so this will probably just stay right here for the remainder of my life. Ah well. Sometimes things are meant to be. I don't know where I'm going with this anymore.

Suffice it to say... This was soooo good! I'm like, still letting it sink in. Jinx approves. Actually, she thinks Jace is kinda creepy. But she likes him still. For some reason. Ah, siblings. Why you so crazy?

    1. Bahahahaha, aw, man, *blushes*, I'm so flattered, Kristen. Me? Emotionally intelligent? HAH. You have NO idea how emotional I am. xD Also, Don't feel so bad about yourself; you have NO idea how many technological issues I had. x) Okay, still don't believe me? Here's the Cinema Sins version of my song:

--1:02 and all scenes with the same camera position - look to the right side of the screen on the wall. Haaay, what's that? Looks like…a TRIPOD SHADOW~! Herpty derp.
--1:07 - look under my lifted arm. You can see a light switch. o.o On the very left edge of the screen, there's the side of the door. o.o Kekeke, I had meant for there to be a plain white wall behind me, but, wups, I forgot to move the camera over. -_-
--1:31 - hey, part of my black scarf is tucked under the neck hem of my shirt.
--1:34 - and now it's untucked! Magic! xD
      --1:33 - no glasses…
--1:38 - BOOM. Magic glasses! Awww yah!
--1:46 - as I'm crumpling up the letter, look above to the top edge of the screen immediately above my hands. Wut. Tripod? REALLY AGAIN?
--1:51 - my scarf is tucked again. x)
--2:03 - whoa, this magic is really handy. The tripod is gone! Also, this pile of shredded up letter is comparatively greater than the pile shown in 1:58. ALSO, if you look hard, you can see that I prematurely wrote ANATHEMA on my left forearm while I meant to not reveal that "mark" until the very end. o.o Tch...
--2:32 - wait a second…the track is playing, but the video me isn't singing. Derp.
--2:38 - the track is an exhale…the video me is inhaling. O.O

Buahaha, so, as you see, this isn't nearly as polished as it appears…plus, add to the fact that I tried to upload this video about five times before I finally succeeded…yeah, this was no joy ride, I promise. xD

Also, Jace, now that he's gotten over his expectation that Jinx would be a refined, dignified, snobbish, pure-blood Light Elf, is totally chill with her. He really liked your chapter and how it portrayed him. x)

    2. *chuckling to myself* yeah, your mistakes are leaving a scarf untucked once or twice. When I make videos the mistakes are more like, "oops, my head was cut off for that entire scene." o.o

  5. DUUUUUUUDE. This is so cool. I can't believe you did this all by yourself! You have some serious talent. I really liked the song, and the music did have a haunting tone that went quite nicely with Jace's character.

And as far as the term "musical geniuses" goes....I'm afraid your sources have exaggerated slightly. :D I mean for real, you're the one that just did this ENTIRE video on your own! That is LEGIT. I do think, however, that it would be fun to have a musical jam session sometime. I've heard that you are amazing with music. And the piano was gorgeous in this song. It made me incredibly happy. I watched the video three times I enjoyed it so much!

    1. *blushes deep red* Byrrrhhh, you're too kind~! >///< I'm really glad that you liked it~ ^_^

Kekeke, well, I dunno, Charissa and Lauren both came back with stories about AK's 18th birthday party and the gorgeous singing/piano playing/guitar playing that you girls do. :D Someday...someday...we shall meet up, and you can show me your mad skillz...
Seriously...over the summer, we bloggers REALLY need to meet up face-to-face. All of us. And we should LARP our charries. And we should write and play pictionary and Scattergories and serve tea for the girls and pizza for the guys and gardens for the Paleo-dietted people, yeah?

    2. Jo, your ignorance amuses me. =D If I could play half as well as you could, I would be a musical prodigy. At AK's birthday party, Nat was all like, "I want to play the drum, Kristen, you can play the piano for us, right?" And I was like, "NOPE." Because I would get so off, and I don't even know how to do the stuff that you guys learned WITHOUT LESSONS. Tell me that isn't insane! Look me in my computer eyes and tell me that isn't crazy.

Megan, That sounds wonderful. Especially for the people who are privileged who get to eat a garden. =P Tell me, is it like, a small garden in someone's backyard, or like, Pike Nursery's?

    3. I'm down with that LARPing idea. Someone find me a red wig...

And, yes, you are all musical geniuses. ;)
